Day 21- The Chosen Mile

January 21, 2012- The Three Amigos

“With whom my hand shall be established; Mine arm also shall strengthen him.”

Psalm 89:22 (21)

It wasn’t very long ago that I sat in a doctor’s office with clenched hands. I had long struggled with infertility and life was just not going according to (my) plan. If there was one thing that I had felt stronger than anything else, it was that I was put on this earth to be a mother. How could God place this desire in my heart only to bring me to this place?

My husband and I waited for what seemed like hours. I knew the news would not be good.

I am sorry to tell you this but you will never have a baby on your own. Your only option is IVF and the cost is pretty high. Here is some information, said cold and sterile doctor.

He slid the pamphlet of happy people over to me. Smiling faces, babies, and a price tag of $25,000, in payments over a gazillion years of course.

I gently shoved the pamphlet of babes back over to him, grabbed my husband’s arm and walked out. I made it to the parking lot before I got sick. I was bent over on gravel vomiting with grief.

I have never felt a greater pain before or since…

But I wasn’t alone, my husband was there with me, and I will never forget what he said to me.

Melissa, you will be a mother. It will happen. You were meant to be a mother.

You were meant to be a mother

That allowed me to pick myself up off the ground and walk away.

The next several months were hard but not impossible. I still did not know Christ yet. I was relying on the God of my ancestors, God the Father, to love me and show me what to do next.

I didn’t recognize it then, but it was God’s voice that I heard through my husband. It was insistent, steady and firm. It was the message I lived by.

It was the message that kept me alive.

God’s gentle hand comes through so many humans. Our friends, spouses and co-workers. The people we least expect. That hand is loving and sure. That arm is the arm that strengthens us when we are weak.

And God uses people everyday in our lives without us even giving the slightest recognition of the true divinity that it is. The saints knew it.

Christ has no body now but yours. No hands, no feet on earth but yours. Yours are the eyes through which he looks compassion on this world. Yours are the feet with which he walks to do good. Yours are the hands through which he blesses all the world. Yours are the hands, yours are the feet, yours are the eyes, you are his body. Christ has no body now on earth but yours.- St. Teresa of Avila

Today, use your holy arm to strengthen someone. If they are asking where God is, tell them He is right there, strengthening you with his arms, holding you in His hands, loving you with His heart. Read them the St. Teresa of Avila quote if they don’t believe you…

And if you are the person that needs the strengthening, can I use my hands to pray for you today? My long-distance arms to hold you? Write me an email with your prayer requests or troubles at melissazpresser@gmail.com. You are not forgotten.
